David Coverdale has announced his retirement from music.
The Whitesnake frontman confirmed this news via the band's official social media pages, where he added a montage of the rocker's performances set to the 2025 remix of Forevermore.
Confirming his retirement in a video message to fans on social media, David Coverdale had this to say.
"Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, brothers and sisters of the 'snake, a special announcement for you", Coverdale said. "After 50 years-plus of an incredible journey with you, with Deep Purple, with Whitesnake, Jimmy Page, the last few years has been very evident to me that it’s time really for me to hang up my rock ‘n’ roll platform shoes and my skintight jeans".
He continued: "And as you can see, we’ve taken care of the lion’s wig. But it’s time for me to call it a day. I love you dearly".
"I thank everyone who’s assisted and supported me on this incredible journey — all the musicians, the crew, the fans, the family. It’s amazing, but it really is time for me to just enjoy my retirement. And I hope you can appreciate that. Once again, I love you with all my heart. Fare thee well".
Whitesnake's last show took place in Hellfest in June 2022. Their first Irish show saw them take to the stage at Dublin's SFX in 1984, where they performed on 14 different occasions. Their last Irish concert was part of The Farewell Tour MMXXII at the 3Arena in May 2022.
Earlier this year, Whitesnake's guitarist John Sykes passed away earlier this year aged 65 following a battle with cancer.
The band's original guitarist Bernie Marsden had died in August 2023.
