30C Highs Expected In Ireland

Temperatures are set to soar to 30C this week.

A met Éireann forecast has predicted that the beginning of the week will be hot and humid with temperatures over 20C set to average around the country.

The warmest counties are expected to be the sunny southeast and south who will have highs between 20-27C on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Thursday is set to be the hottest day of them all reaching up to 30C in certain areas however, heavy showers are also predicted to accompany the hot weather.

The public is being advised to stay safe in these unusually high temperatures, be sun smart and stay safe around bodies of water.

The forecast is following the trend set in May of record breaking temperatures. Last May Abbeyfeel, Co Limerick, and Clonmel, Co Tipperary on 25-26 May, broke the record for May's hottest day when temperatures of 30.9 degrees was recorded.

European Heatwave.

The heatwave is also effecting the rest of Europe with temperature reaching the 40's expected on the mainland.

In France today highs of 40C are expected and emergency services have been put on alert.

Public alcohol consumption restrictions have been brought in and many outdoor events have been canceled.
