After appearing at a Netflix event last week, Bruce Springsteen revealed that he has just written new songs for an E Street Band album after a seven-year break.

In conversation with his old friend Martin Scorsese at the recent Hollywood event, Bruce opened up about the period when he was plagued by writer’s block. Springsteen explained to Scorsese:

“I couldn’t write anything for the band. And then about a month or so ago, I wrote almost an album’s worth of material for the band…I mean, I know where it came from, but at the same time, it just came out of almost nowhere.”

The Boss continued: “I had almost two weeks of those daily visitations and it was so nice.  It makes you so happy. You go, ‘Fine, I’m not fucked.’ There’ll be another tour.”

Scorsese and Springsteen first met at one of Bruce’s concerts in 1975, this time it was at the streaming series FYsee promotion with Netflix’s special version of Springsteen of Broadway for a possible Emmy consideration.

The music icon spoke about the ideas and the creative decisions he made during the production. That process, Springsteen explains, started when he was invited to perform in the White House by Obama during the last few weeks of the former president’s term of office.

The Boss also revealed to Scorsese that particular visit inspired him to write a number of spoken-word pieces as well as songs that would eventually turn into Springsteen on Broadway.

Bruce recently released a low key, solo single, “Hello Sunshine.” The track features on the first track of his 19th album Western Stars.

The album is set to drop June 14 via Columbia Records. It’s been a long wait since Springsteen’s previous album in 2014’s High Hopes, which featured performances by the E Street Band.
