Hundreds of civilians have been sheltering in a steel plant.

Some have been in the complex – alongside Ukrainian fighters – for up to two months, as the Russian bombardment’s been continuing.

100 people got out yesterday.

Tom Mutch is a journalist who is based in Kiev and says Mariupol has “taken the brunt of most of the recent fighting.”

MEANWHILE, the Irish government is being urged to engage with English Language Teachers to develop a strategy for teaching refugees.

Trade union Unite, believe ‘a best practice model’ for teaching refugees and asylum seekers is long overdue.

They’re calling for a service which recognises refugee’s language education needs, as well as the trauma they have been through.

Chairperson of Unite’s ELT department Anne Dunne says their training and experience should be taken into consideration.
