Mumford & Sons have shared a new single, 'The Banjo Song'.
The song, which you can check out below, was co written by The National's Aaron Dessner and Jon Bellion, and will feature on the band's upcoming album, 'Prizefighter', which arrives on February 20 via Island. You can pre order or pre save this album via this link here.
'The Banjo Song' begins with the verse: “On the dark side of the Earth/ Where the creatures are out/ I’m a man on the moon/ Midnight ‘round my neck/ And sunrise on my breath/ I still wait for you".
Later, the band's frontman Marcus Mumford asks: “Well, hey/ Did you call, did you fall, do you need someone?/ Do you need someone?”, before later admitting: “And, hey/ I’m a mess myself but I think I could be someone/ If you need someone".
Mumford still insists that “things don’t have to fall apart“, despite ongoing troubles. He sings: “Tell a lie/ See a light/ Burn a bridge/ It’ll be alright".
This song had been previewed by Mumford & Sons on social media earlier this week, with the band writing: “We can’t wait for you guys to hear it properly in [its] full sonic glory".
Mumford & Sons had previously shared their single, 'Rubber Band Man' which saw them collaborate with Hozier, along with the Prizefighter title track.
Back in November, it was reported that Mumford & Sons were not asked back to play at Glastonbury after their frontman had tried to steal a sofa from a dressing room, after they had headlined the event in 2013.
According to Mumford, he was keen to take an item from the dressing as a "memento".
"I got kicked out of our dressing room. I wasn't allowed back in because I tried to steal furniture", Mumford told the Table Manners podcast. "I wanted a memento, so I tried to load the sofa into the back of my van".
Despite never being asked to return to the event, Marcus Mumford insisted that Glastonbury is the best festive on the planet, despite the fact they have not played at Worth Farm in more than 10 years.
"It's just the best festival on Earth", he insisted. "Every other festival tries to be Glastonbury. It's the OG".
Mumford & Sons had previously spoken about this bizarre incident back in 2016.
"We came off stage and I tried to nick a sofa from the dressing room - and got chucked out", he said. "They didn't let me back in".
"They'd just had enough of us by the end. And they said, 'Get out and don't come back".
