Chris Pratt has confirmed that Star-Lord will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with the actor revealing that Marvel has already taken steps to bring the fan-favourite character back to the big screen.
Pratt, who has played Peter Quill since 2014, shared the news during an appearance on The Playlist’s Bingeworthy podcast.

He said he has been in ongoing discussions with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and executive Lou D’Esposito about fulfilling the promise made at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
“I have a great relationship with Kevin [Feige] and Lou [D’Esposito], and there have been both ongoing conversations about how we make good on that promise and also hard action taken to make sure that we make good on that promise,” he said.
“So yeah, you’ll see Star-Lord again, which is very exciting, but I’m not at liberty to say when that’s going to be, but he’s not going anywhere."

The actor has not revealed which film will mark Star-Lord’s return, leaving fans wondering whether he could appear in one of Marvel’s upcoming Avengers films, Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars. However, Marvel has not confirmed his involvement in either project.
The news follows the ending of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, released in 2023, which saw Peter Quill return to Earth to reconnect with his grandfather after years spent travelling across the galaxy.
The film closed with a message promising that “The Legendary Star-Lord Will Return” — a tease that has now been backed up by Pratt’s comments.
Pratt first appeared as Star-Lord in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy, which introduced audiences to a very different group of Marvel heroes.
Alongside Pratt, the films featured Zoe Saldaña as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket and Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot.
The original 2014 film was a major success, earning more than $770 million worldwide despite centring on characters who were far less familiar to mainstream audiences than Spider-Man, Iron Man or Captain America.

Its mix of comedy, action, unusual characters and classic pop music helped establish the Guardians as one of Marvel’s most popular teams.
The two sequels were also box-office hits, with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 earning around $869 million worldwide and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 taking more than $845 million.
The franchise also became an important part of the wider Marvel story.
Star-Lord and several of his fellow Guardians played major roles in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, the films that brought the fight against Thanos to a dramatic conclusion.

Both movies were huge global hits.
Infinity War earned more than $2 billion worldwide, while Endgame originally made almost $2.8 billion during its initial release. Following a 2026 re-release, Endgame has reclaimed the title of the highest-grossing film of all time, with its worldwide total now estimated at more than $2.9 billion.
Marvel’s next major crossover, Avengers: Doomsday, is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on 18 December 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars following in December 2027.
Neither film has been confirmed as Star-Lord’s comeback, however, and Pratt has not disclosed when audiences can expect to see him again.
