The daughters of musicians Dave Grohl and Gary Numan paid tribute to the late, great American filmmaker David Lynch, on what would have been his 80th birthday.
Violet Grohl, daughter of Foo Fighters' frontman Dave Grohl shared a tribute to Lynch on this occasion, with his single, What's Heaven Without You, which was co written by her friend Persia Numan, whose father is English New Wave/Synth Pop star, Gary Numan, as well as producer Justin Raisen.
David Lynch, was one of the musical directors of all time, whose credits include The Elephant Man, Blue Velvet, Lost Highway, Wild At Heart and Eraserhead. He passed away on 16 January last year.
Speaking about the song, Violet Grohl had this say.
"This song was written in David Lynch's memory alongside two of my favorite collaborators in the world, Persia Numan, and Justin Raisen", she said. "A few days after the chaos and devastation of the LA fires, we came together in our sadness and grief and let it pour out into this song. We hope you can find some resonance in it. The impact he left on art is truly magical, we miss you David xx".
Released via Auroura Records, under the exclusive licence to UMG Recordings, inc, 'What's Heaven Without You' is available via Bandcamp.
Prior to this, Violet Grohl shared her guest vocals on the track, Show Me How from Foo Fighters' 2023 album, But Here We Are. She also joined forces with her father on a cover of X's Nausea, which was included on the soundtrack to the documentary, What Drives Us, Dave Grohl's 2021 documentary.
In 2022, Violet also performed at the tribute show for the late Foo Fighters drummer, Taylor Hawkins at LA's Kia Forum, which included the line up: Josh Homme, Geezer Butler, Alanis Morrisette, Joan Jett, Chad Smith, Mark Ronson, Miley Cyrus, along with Hawkins' band Foo Fighters.
