David Gilmour has paid tribute to long time friend and Pink Floyd collaborator, Dick Parry, who passed away aged 83.
Parry played saxophone on a number of Gilmour's solo albums, as well several Pink Floyd tracks, including The Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here. He also toured with the band during the 1970s, before returning for their world tour in 1994, supporting their album, The Division Bell.
Paying tribute to Parry on social media, David Gilmour shared this following message.
"My dear friend Dick Parry died", he began.
He continued: "Since I was seventeen, I have played in bands with Dick on saxophone, including Pink Floyd. His feel and tone make his saxophone playing unmistakable, a signature of enormous beauty that is known to millions and is such a big part of songs such as Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Us and Them and Money."
"He played in the last band I had that included Rick Wright for the On An Island Tour and at Live 8 with Pink Floyd".
Dick Parry passed away last Friday (May 22). His cause of death was unknown at the time of writing.
Last December, Gilmour also celebrated Pink Floyd's album, 'Wish You Were Here' reaching number one in the UK's Christmas Album Charts.
This comes as the album was reissued with new physical and digital editions as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations. It was announced that this reissue had hit number one in the Official Albums Charts for Christmas. More on this here.
“Raising a glass to the wonderful news that Wish You Were Here is the UK’s Christmas Number 1 album", Gilmour wrote on social media. See the post in full here.
