Nova's own Marty Miller has been honoured on the international stage, winning a Bronze Tower at the prestigious 2026 New York Festivals Radio Awards for his acclaimed documentary ‘Rory Gallagher: Bad Penny’.
The award was announced during the New York Festivals Storytellers Gala virtual event, with Marty’s documentary taking home Bronze in the highly competitive Documentary – Music category.
The New York Festivals Radio Awards celebrate excellence in global audio storytelling across radio, podcasts and documentaries, with entries judged by an international Grand Jury of industry experts from around the world.
Marty’s documentary was recognised among an exceptional field of international entries and was the only Irish music documentary shortlisted in its category this year. ‘Rory Gallagher: Bad Penny’ explored the enduring influence and legacy of legendary Irish guitarist Rory Gallagher, featuring contributions from internationally acclaimed guitarist Joe Bonamassa, Rory’s brother Donal Gallagher, nephew Daniel Gallagher, and former bandmate Gerry McAvoy.
Speaking following the win, Marty Miller said: ““I’m absolutely over the moon that our documentary has been recognised at the same level as some of the world’s biggest broadcasters including the BBC, NBC, CBS, France 5 and Canada’s CBC. That is incredibly special and something I’m hugely proud of. Rory Gallagher is one of the world’s greatest guitarists and absolutely deserves to be remembered and celebrated globally. Hopefully this documentary helps shine a light on Rory, his music and the incredible legacy he left behind. Huge thanks to Rory’s family for their generosity and involvement, and to Joe Bonamassa for speaking about Rory with such passion, admiration and honesty throughout the documentary.”
Kevin Branigan, CEO of Radio Nova, said: “We are absolutely thrilled for Marty on this fantastic international achievement. Winning at the New York Festivals Radio Awards is a major honour and a testament to Marty’s passion, creativity and outstanding storytelling ability. ‘Rory Gallagher: Bad Penny’ is a beautifully crafted documentary and this recognition highlights the quality of broadcasting and original content being produced at Radio Nova. Everyone at the station is immensely proud of Marty and this well-deserved success.”
