Katie Taylor's finale fight at Croke Park looks is to be officially confirmed this Friday.
The fighter's promoters and management team previously met with Croke Park to try to finalised the fight at the stadium, which has been a long time ambition for her. In a stellar career, Taylor has won world titles in two weight divisions and has broken down many barriers in female boxing. She also won Olympic Gold at the 2012 games.
Last week, promoter Eddie Hearn told reporters that a proposed date for this fight was Saturday 5 September, should an agreement be reached following these negotiations.
Now, a press event has been arranged by Matchroom Boxing, who are chaired by Hearn, for this Friday at Croke Park, where the fight is set to be formally announced.
Previously, Katie Taylor insisted that it was "Croke Park or nowhere for me" when it came to the location for her farewell fight.
"My team are working very hard behind the scenes to try and make that happen. There’s obviously so many considerations to make it happen, and we’re hoping to hear some news soon. The meeting that they had a couple of weeks ago, Eddie Hearn and my manager Brian [Peters], were in Croke Park a few weeks ago and the meeting was very, very positive. So, we’ll see what happens", she said back in April.
In another interview, she added: "I'm very, very hopeful. I know that the meeting did go very, very well. I think everybody seems to be on board. We're just waiting for confirmation. We're just waiting for a fight date now. But I'm still in the gym training. I'm not far away from fight ready. So once a day and once the flight is locked in, that's when I'll be focused on the actual flight itself".
