Troy Parrott is appearing closer to a move to La Liga side, Real Betis.
This comes following reports that a deal between the Champions League bound side and Parrott's current club, AZ Alkmaar is close, according to various outlets including The BBC, Sky Sports and The Independent in the UK.
Prior to talks with Betis, Troy Parrott had been linked with a move to English side West Ham United, a move which appears unlikely now, as they have recently signed Leeds United attacker, Joel Piroe on a season long loan.
Real Betis are currently managed by former Real Madrid and Manchester City manager, Manuel Pellegrini, who guided them to the 2021/2022 Copa del Rey, as well as the 2025 Europa Conference League final, which they lost 4-1 to Chelsea.
According to reports in The Irish Times, Troy Parrott is finalising terms of a five year contract to sign for Real Betis, for a reported initial fee of €16 million, with €4 million in add-ons. He is set to undergo a medical with the Spanish club.
Parrott has enjoyed a successful 2025/2026 season with the AZ Alkmaar, scoring 16 goals as the club finished qualified for the Europa League, after finishing 7th in their domestic league. He had joined Alkmaar from Tottenham Hotspur FC, having also spent time on loan with Dutch side, Excelsior Rotterdam.
Should Parrott sign with Betis, he would once again link up with his former Tottenham Hotspur team mate, Giovanni Lo Celso. The Spanish side also include former Arsenal player, Hector Bellerin in their squad, as well as ex Manchester United winger, Antony.
The Dubliner has also shone on the international stage, with his goals almost single handily guiding the Republic of Ireland to the World Cup, having lost out in the qualification play off to Czechia on penalties.
Among the highlights were a brace of goals from Parrott which saw Ireland beat Portugal 2-0, while a dramatic hat trick from the same player saw Ireland beat Hungary in stoppage time to secure the play off.
Back in April, Troy Parrott was named the country's most beloved male sports man, finishing ahead of golfer Rory McIlroy, following a popularity survey. More on this story from Nova here.
