The crèche will be honoured for her bravery during attack in 2023.
Dublin City Council has agreed to honour crèche worker Leanne Flynn for the bravery she showed during the attack on Parnell Square three years ago.
During the awful attack Flynn bravely tried to save a number of young children from being stabbed. Flynn was stabbed whilst trying to protect the children.
In Autumn, an event will be held to honour the role Flynn played in protecting the children and to acknowledge all the bystanders who intervened.
At their monthly meeting, Dublin City Council also agreed that they will hold an event to honour the Shamrock Rovers captain Roberto 'Pico' Lopes for his performance at the World Cup.
On November 23rd 2023, the crèche worker was with a group of children on Parnell Street when Riad Bouchaker pulled out a knife.
Sinn Féin councillor Daithí Doolan, told the Journal that Flynn “bravely and unselfishly put the welfare of others ahead of her own health and safety”.
“The safety of the school children was foremost in Leanne’s mind. Protecting those children was her priority. During the attack Leanne herself was stabbed in the back. Her injuries were so serious she was hospitalised for a month and had emergency surgery. The bravery shown by Leanne was a ray of hope in those dark days that followed the attack," Doolan continued.
On the first of July, 52 year old was found guilty of the attempted murder of three young children .
A jury at the Central Criminal Court found Bouchaker guilty of all eight charges after more than four hours of deliberations. Read more on Nova here.
