Filming for the upcoming Harry Potter series has been "brutal", says cinematographer.
Cinematographer Adriano Goldman described the filming process as brutal due to the strict working schedules of its young cast.
In a recent interview with André Pilli on YouTube Goldman said that production has had to work around the limits in place of how long the child actors can work for.
“You have to shoot really fast, and the faster you go, the more you compromise quality. There’s no way around it, right? Obviously, we have a lot of resources, but it’s brutal," Goldman said.
“The kids’ screen time is really brutal. So the methodology is very specific. You practically have to pre-shoot all the scenes while they’re in class," he continued.
Due to the strict schedules , the main three actors may only be on set for an hour and a half, making it difficult as they have to "you shoot everything out of order, right, because of that kind of scheduling," Goldman explained.
Goldman acknowledges the delays filming is facing as HBO boss Casey Bloys recently commented on the difficulty to create the series quickly to avoid visible signs of aging in its cast between seasons.
“Our goal is to not have a huge gap, you know, especially because the kids are growing. It’s not going to be annual; the show is too big and too massive. But… they’re writing season two now," Goldman said according to NME.
Starring in the new series is Dominic McLaughlin, Alastair Stout and Arabella Stanton will lead the cast as Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger respectively.
Alongside them, the cast includes a John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch.
The series is scheduled to premiere on HBO and HBO Max on Christmas Day (December 25th).
