Gardaí Catch Drivers Speeding On National Slow Down Day In Kildare

Gardaí in Kildare found several drivers speeding between Naas and Newbridge during National Slow Down Day.

An Garda Síochána Kildare, posted to their official Facebook page: “Newbridge gardaí conducted a speed check this morning on the Newhall Road (Naas Road), between Newbridge and Naas, where the speed limit is 80 kilometres per hour (km/h)."

“Several motorists were detected exceeding the speed limit; each driver faces a €160 Fixed Charge Penalty Notice and three penalty points," the post continued.

In the post, Gardaí emphasised that 80km/h is a "limit not a target" and it is a "maximum speed."

Their post concluded by calling drivers to "slow down" and "arrive alive."

Monday, August 31st is Kildare's National Slow Down day, where An Garda Síochána Kildare take part in a nationwide 24-hour speed enforcement operation.

According to An Garda Síochána, speeding remains one of the leading causes of serious and fatal road incidents.

In another post on their Facebook page, they said that "too many families have received devastating news because someone chose to drive too fast. A moment's impatience can have lifelong consequences."
