Aerosmith’s guitarist and founding member Joe Perry has just revealed the band may reunite for one final concert.
Perry hinted at the possibility of another full Aerosmith show in a new interview on Sirius XM’s Trunk Nation, “We’re talking about it.”
He continued “I mean, except for like, anything on the calendar, we’re all alive and well, so, you know, we’ll just have to see, you know? I know there’s gotta be at least another Aerosmith gig, and I’m not looking forward to putting the set list together for that one, but I don’t know, man. We’ll just have to see.”
Their ‘Peace Out’ tour which began in 2023 only saw the band play three shows.
Last August the band’s frontman Steven Tyler was struck with a serious vocal cord injury, causing the rock gods to suddenly announce they were retiring from touring. All postponed dates on their North American tour were cancelled.
The band shared the following statement about the cancellation: “Sadly, it is clear that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible. We have made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary, decision—as a band of brothers—to retire from the touring stage.”
Steven Tyler said: “I am heartbroken to not be out there with Aerosmith, my brothers and the incredible Black Crowes, rocking with the best fans in the world. I promise we will be back as soon as we can!”
Several famous faces commented how upset they were to hear the news. Rocker Sammy Hagar called the retirement “a great f***ing loss” and Queen’s Brian May revealed the announcement had brought a tear to his eye.
Guns N’ Roses drummer Matt Sorum, said that he did not think Tyler would ever be able to go on tour again: “Steven cannot put himself under the rigours of doing a full worldwide tour because there’s a lot of pressure. And if you’re not a singer, you wouldn’t understand what he goes through, but he’s 77 years old and he’s a perfectionist. And if he doesn’t sing correctly, it bothers him.”
At a charity event in February, Tyler managed to take to the stage to sing a few Aerosmith classics including ‘Sweet Emotion’, ‘Dream On’ and ‘Walk This Way.’ In April there was another such event where Tyler reunited on stage with Perry for the first time in two years.
The charismatic star also played alongside Ronnie Wood, Travis Barker and others on ‘Whole Lotta Love’ ‘Walk This Way’ ‘Train Kept A Rollin’, while at the Black Sabbath ‘Back To The Beginning’ farewell show.
In the Trunk Nation interview Perry was asked if he believed Tyler would be able to play a full show and he responded positively saying “You know, I think he would. I think it’s just a matter of getting there.”
