Andrew Garfield has opened up about his fears around becoming a father, admitting that the idea of having children “scares the s--- out of me”.
The Amazing Spider-Man actor made the candid admission while appearing on Amy Poehler’s Good Hang podcast.

During their conversation, Garfield was asked about his biggest fears when he gave a surprisingly emotional answer.
“You know what I’m really scared of?” he told the Parks and Recreation star. “Being a dad. Scares the s--- out of me. It scares me so much.”
Poehler reassured the actor, telling him: “You’re gonna be so great! Don’t even worry about it!”
She then pointed out that the fact Garfield was already thinking so deeply about parenthood was a good sign.

Garfield admitted that the thought of becoming a parent is an emotional one for him and that he understands just how important the role would be.
“I mean, that would be the biggest, most important thing I ever probably do. And I know that to be true,” he said. “Makes me want to cry thinking about it.”
Poehler responded by encouraging him to let the emotions out, joking: “Cry, cry, cry! Cry! I love when boys cry on here!”

Garfield, 43, does not currently have children, but he has been in a relationship with fellow actor Monica Barbaro since early 2025.
The pair were first linked in early 2025, with their relationship reported publicly in February of that year. They have generally kept their romance private, although they made their first major public appearance together at Wimbledon in July 2025.

Barbaro has also been building a strong reputation of her own in recent years. She played Joan Baez in A Complete Unknown, the Bob Dylan biopic starring Timothée Chalamet.
Garfield has previously been full of praise for his girlfriend’s performance, describing her work as Baez as “transformational, extraordinary, and deeply mysterious”.

“I think Monica is a supremely talented actor,” he told Who What Wear.
“I think what she did as Joan Baez - what she accessed in that project - is nothing short of transformational, extraordinary, and deeply mysterious. I think she is truly incredible. I could wax lyrical more, but I’ll leave it there.”
While Garfield has not suggested that fatherhood is something happening for him imminently, his comments offer a rare glimpse into how seriously he thinks about becoming a parent.
