The Bangkok governor has promised stricter inspection after a bar fire kills 30 people.
The death toll from the tragic bar fire in Thailand's capital reached 30, according to officials.
After the tragic fire, Bangkok's governor promised to introduce stricter inspections, whilst police are currently investigating possible negligence breaches of safety on the pub, according to RTE.
Reports have revealed that the bar fire is the deadliest they have seen in Thailand in recent years. The flame spread through the Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao pub in the north of the city on Sunday night.
Witnesses of the tragic flames said they saw a "horizontal burst of fire and smoke engulfing the single-storey venue," a witness told RTE.
The pub is located in a busy area beside a train station and two shopping centres.
According to reports, authorities have stated that an electrical short circuit in a ceiling air conditioner could be the cause of the fire.
Police are currently investigating the pub and if their exits were obstructed and if flammable materials were used for stage decorations.
Bangkok governor Chadchart Sittipunt said they have set up a committee to investigate the truth of the incident and to determine what should be improved and changed.
"We will do more random checks," Sittipunt said.
34 people have been interviewed by police and once all facts and evidence are gathered charges will be made, according to a recent report in RTE.
Thailand's national police chief, Kittharath Punpetch, said that many of the victims were trapped in a windowless bathroom towards the rear exit of the bar.
He continued to reveal that people may have been unable to reach the exit as a table was set up to sell sweets in the establishment or because it was too dark to navigate their way.
The Thai national police confirmed that investigators found materials possibly used for decorative purposes and have concluded "negligence as the primary theory guiding their investigation," as quoted by Sky News.
Relatives of the fire victims assembled at Police General Hospital to identify the bodies. Booyaporn Sermsiri was at the hospital searching for her daughter who remains missing. "Since we haven't found her yet, we can only wait. We are holding onto hope," Sermsiri told RTE.
Many people have visited the bar this morning, laying garlands and praying for the dead.
