BBC Radio 1 have denied claims that they edited out the Irish language part of CMAT's single, 'Euro Country'.

This is the latest track to be shared by the singer ahead of her album of the same name, which is to be released on August 29. The album also features tracks ‘Running/Planning’, ‘Take A Sexy Picture Of Me’ and ‘The Jamie Oliver Petrol Station’.

The first 45 seconds of 'Euro Country' features Irish lyrics, however when the song was first played by BBC Radio 1 last Tuesday, the Irish part was not included.

Taking to Instagram afterwards, CMAT, whose real name is Ciara Mary-Alice Thompson, questioned the station's decision to not include the lyrics.

“It was not my decision to have the Irish language edited out of the first-ever play of ‘Euro-Country’ on radio,” she wrote. “I don’t know if it was a mistake or what happened, but that was not my decision".

Thompson also remarked that the BBC had already been in touch regarding this oversight, and were “going to play the Irish language intro – the full version of ‘Euro-Country’ … to make up for it".

"an empty head"

The Irish part of the song sees CMAT talk about having "an empty head" and "a new personality" after someone close to her had "gone from my life".

“I don’t know who edited it out – that was crazy of them,” CMAT added. “They also did a crazy editing out of the line ‘I was 12 when the dads started killing themselves all around me‘, which I guess is more understandable".

Following this, the BBC has responded to the comments, and have since claimed that they did not edit out the lyrics, but played a radio edit of the song which provided by the record label AWAL. They also added that the full version including the Irish language part, which was already played on Rickie Melvin and Charlie. They also said that they would be played again on Radio 1's New Music Show with Jack Saunders.
