Gardaí in Blanchardstown have launched a second murder investigation as part of their wider investigation into the Christmas Eve gangland botch job which has now resulted in a second murder.

A 48-year-old man who was shot in the gun attack at Browne’s steakhouse restaurant has now died from his injuries at the Mater hospital.

Jason Hennessy Senior had reportedly been in a serious condition since the December 24th attack, which repulsed the nation and passed away on Thursday.

The Sunday World reports that his condition had steadily worsened and he died after a few days on life support.

Hennessy Snr. was shot in the neck during the Christmas Eve attack in which the gunman, 26-year-old Tristan Sherry, was overpowered and stabbed to death. It is understood that Hennessy Senior was driven to hospital by a relative after the shooting.

A 22-year-old man appeared before Dublin District Court where he was charged with Sherry’s murder. Michael Andrecut of Dublin 15 was brought before Judge Stephanie Coggans at a special court sitting at the Criminal Courts of Justice and was remanded in custody.

Two other men, including an 18-year-old, have also been arrested in connection with the murder and remain in garda custody. A post-mortem examination will be conducted in the coming days on the body of the deceased male by the State Pathologist.
