Gardaí were called to a property in Brookwood Heights, Artane, at approximately 12:30am following reports of a disturbance. The man received treatment for his injuries at the scene but was pronounced dead a short time later.
A man in his 60s was arrested in connection with the incident and is currently being questioned by Gardaí.
It is understood that the two men were known to each other.
The deceased man’s body has been removed from the scene and a post-mortem examination is currently taking place to establish the cause of death.
Gardaí have confirmed they are pursuing a definite line of inquiry and are not seeking anyone else in connection with the incident at this time.
The scene remains preserved for forensic examination while investigations continue. An incident room has also been established at Clontarf Garda Station.
