Bruckheimer told the BBC that the film is officially in the works, after months of speculation.
The film which is co-produced by world champion Lewis Hamilton, has won four Oscars this year, with one including an award for 'Best Picture'.
Bruckheimer confirmed with the BBC at the annual Academy Awards luncheon in Los Angeles that "we're working on a sequel." He did not give a timeline for production of the sequel or disclose if Pitt will feature in the upcoming film, however he noted that Pitt will "of course" be included in casting decisions.
Bruckheimer included that he was shocked by the recognition that the film had received, including their award for 'Best Picture'. "It was a long journey to get the movie made because we had to endure a couple of strikes – but in the end, the movie entertained audiences around the world, I never worked with Brad Pitt before and it's really a thrill to work with Brad," he said.
In other news, Pitt is currently in Ireland to shoot his new fil, 'One for All' which will feature Julianne Nicholson as co-star. Since Pitt touched down in the Emerald Isle, AI images have been surfacing online of fans claiming to have met the star and know his whereabouts, others have been sharing glossy versions of Pitt holding pints of Irish stout. Irish businesses have jumped onto the trend and have created images of the star infront of their buildings and consuming their products.
