Following a full day of voting, it was Bruce Springsteen who came out on top in the vote for Greatest American Act Of All Time by the listeners of Radio Nova.

The polls which began last Friday, managed to choose two artists from a star studded line up, which included Guns N Roses , REM , The Eagles, The Killers , Red Hot Chilli Peppers , Blondie , Bruce Springsteen and Fleetwood Mac.

Eventually, it was whittled down to Bruce Springsteen and Guns N’Roses, with ‘The Boss’ shading it, earning 53.8% of the vote in a very tight race.

The winner was announced by our very own Pat Courtenay from the Afternoon Drive at 6pm, celebrating 4 July American Independence Day.

Bruce Springsteen’s triumph as Greatest American Act Of All Time, follows on Queen earning the title of Greatest British Act Of All Time, according to Radio Nova listeners.

The band saw of competition from the likes of  Oasis, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Florence & The Machine, The Cure, Pink Floyd, Depeche Mode, Eric Clapton, The Who, ELO, Oasis, Blur, The Verve, Def Leppard, Roxy Music, Genesis, David Bowie, The Stereophonics, Kate Bush, The Clash, Radiohead, The Kinks, Led Zeppelin, The Smiths, The Police, Status Quo, The Stone Roses, Dire Straits, Duran Duran, Coldplay, The Smiths, The Jam & The Eurythmics.

Bruce and Queen’s exploits also follow on from Thin Lizzy being voted by our listeners as the Greatest that Ireland has to offer.

The band fronted by the late Phil Lynott, held off stiff competition from the likes of  U2, Aslan, Sinead O’Connor, Hozier, Ash, Snow Patrol, The Cranberries, and more as part of Radio Nova’s ‘Shamrock Referendum’.

Other artists also included Horslips, Coronas, Van Morrison, The Undertones, The Pogues.

Thin Lizzy subsequently landed just over 60% of the vote. More on this here.
