Coldplay Named Most Played British Group Of 21st Century

Coldplay have been crowned the most played British group of the 21st century.

The band were named the most played band in Britain this century, By PPL, a music licensing company, who released its list of most played bands in the UK, marking National Album Day 2024.

National Album Day 2024 takes place on October 19, celebrating Great British Groups.

This occasion sees digital entertainment and retail association ERA, and labels trade firm BPI join forces with BBC Radio, and the music industry, to celebrate “the art of the album”, with the aim of promoting engagement with the album format, especially with young music lovers, with this year’s theme being Great British Groups.

PPL grants the use of recorded music, on radio, TV and in public places including shops, restaurants, offices, gyms, and warehouses across the UK. They also receive airplay reporting from these broadcasters, and venues which hold public performances.

Coldplay Come Out On Top

According to this list, Coldplay came out on top, as the most played British group band of the 21st century, with Viva La Vida being their biggest track, played on average of 27 times daily.

Other tracks to get plentiful airtime also include Something Like This, Clocks, Paradise, and Adventure of a Lifetime. Overall, Coldplay have accrued 400,000,000 seconds, or 13 years of airplay this century.

The band finished ahead of music legends Queen, who finished at number 2, with Take That, Little Mix and The Beatles completing the top 5.
