Gardaí say they are aware of a large volume of commentary and posts on a variety of social media platforms and messaging apps by a number of different individual accounts.

They will be examined to assess any potential breaches of criminal legislation.

Gardaí say a formal criminal investigation has not started in respect of any individual, or group of individuals at this time.

The former two time UFC Champion Conor McGregor is now under investigation from the Gardai according to The Irish Mirror over alleged incitement to hatred surrounding the Dublin riots.

Garda commissioner Drew Harris said in the wake of the unrest that “hateful assumptions” were made about the knifeman’s identity based on material circulating online and linked the unrest to a “lunatic, hooligan faction driven by a far-Right ideology”.

McGregor’s vociferous tweets from last week are widely viewed in the overall context of what took place on the streets which saw a Dublin Bus vehicle, a Garda car and a Luas tram laid to waste through incineration by widespread degeneracy.

In a later post, the Crumlin man said he did not condone the riots but “I do understand frustrations… and I do understand a move must be made to ensure the change we need is ushered in”.
