Line Of Duty Star Brian McCardie Dies Aged 59

Scottish actor Brian McCardie best known for his roles in Line of Duty and Rob Roy, has died aged 59.

Brian McCardie played criminal boss turned police informant Tommy Hunter on the hit BBC crime show, starring Adrian Dunbar, Martin Compston and Vicky McClure.

The actor grew up in Carluke, near Glasgow. His death was confirmed by his agent, who released this statement.

In this statement, United Agents confirmed McCardie’s death.

“We are shocked and so deeply saddened by the tragic news of Brian’s sudden death”, they said. “He was an actor of such great talent who we were lucky to represent, and our thoughts are very much with his family and friends at this difficult time”.

Earlier, Brian’s sister Sarah McCardie paid tribute to her late brother on social media, describing him as a “wonderful and passionate actor on stage and screen, Brian loved his work and touched many lives, and is gone much too soon”.

She also added, “We love him and will miss him greatly, please remember Brian in your thoughts”. 

Along with Line of Duty, and Rob Roy, Brian McCardie also featured in Roman set series, Domina, where he played the role of Cicero.

McCardie also played Sir Marcus MacRannoch in the time travel historical show, Outlander, where his character offers help during a prison rescue attempt. He also starred as Irish leader James Connolly in the 1916 set Rebellion. 

The actor also appeared in episodes of The Bill, Holby City, and Sky Atlantic series, Domina.
