Dublin Airport Scraps 100mL Liquid Rule: What Travellers Need to Know

Dublin Airport has officially scrapped the long‑standing 100mL liquid restriction for carry‑on baggage, following the full rollout of new security scanners across both terminals.

What’s Changed

  • No more 100mL rule – Passengers can now carry up to 2 litres of liquids in their hand luggage. Bottles no longer need to be under 100mL.
  • No more clear plastic bags – Gels, pastes, and cosmetics no longer need to be placed in a resealable bag.
  • No need to remove electronics or liquids – Laptops, tablets, and liquids can remain inside bags during security screening.

Why the Change?

The easing of restrictions comes thanks to the installation of C3 scanners – advanced 3D imaging systems similar to hospital CT scanners. These machines provide clearer security scans, eliminating the need to manually separate liquids and electronics. Dublin Airport completed the rollout ahead of schedule, with around 30 new scanners now in place.

What Stays the Same

  • You still need to remove belts, large shoes, jackets, and bulky outerwear.
  • Items in your pockets (keys, coins, phones, wallets) must still be placed in trays.
  • Other airports may not have the same rules – if you’re flying into or returning from elsewhere, you may still face the old 100mL limits and bag requirements.

Timeline

The changes came into effect from September 19, 2025, applying across both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.

Reactions

Passengers have welcomed the move as a huge convenience, cutting down queues and eliminating the stress of reorganising bags at security. Dublin Airport Authority (daa) says the upgrade improves both passenger experience and security efficiency.

Key Takeaways for Travellers

  • You can bring larger liquid containers (up to 2L total) in hand luggage when flying from Dublin Airport.
  • Leave your electronics and liquids packed in your bag.
  • Check security rules at your destination or connecting airports, as not all hubs have upgraded to the same technology yet.

Bottom line: Dublin Airport has entered a new era of easier security screening. While old habits might take time to break, the days of the 100mL liquid limit and fiddly plastic bags are finally over — at least when departing from Dublin.
