It has been confirmed that the final batch of tickets for Katie Taylor's highly anticipated farewell fight at Croke Park, will go up for sale next week.
Bray native Taylor will take on undefeated French boxer, Flora Pilli at Croke Park on September 5, the final bout of a stellar career. Taylor has not fought in the ring since her fight with Amanda Serrano in New York's Madison Square Garden last year.
Back in June, it had been announced that 80,000 plus tickets for this fight sold out in less than 30 minutes, a fact which had left Katie Taylor blown away.
"I’m actually blown away by by support. It’s been an amazing few weeks since the fight was announced, even on that bus tour going around the country. I felt like a pop star", she said. "It’s the fairy-tale ending I always wanted and I can’t believe it’s actually happening", Taylor said in a statement at the time.
"It’s beyond my wildest dreams at this stage, but I still know I have a job to do".
Now, it has been announced that a limited amount of tickets will be available for this fight from Monday, August 10 at 10am via Ticketmaster.
Speaking after this fight was announced, promoter Eddie Hearn called Taylor a "living legend".
"This is an incredibly proud moment for Matchroom,” Hearn said in a press release.
“For everything Katie Taylor has accomplished, and for all those she has inspired along the way, it is absolutely beyond deserved. From turning over as a professional a decade ago, to fighting in the most iconic stadiums around the world and making history at Madison Square Garden, she’s done it all. What a magical adventure it has been. Getting here to Croke Park has been years in the making. But we were never giving up on delivering this dream".
Last month, Katie Taylor admitted that she would have quit the sport if this Croke fight did not happen.
"I’ve spoke to my family about going to Croke Park but never thought it was going to happen until a few months ago," said Taylor, according to RTÉ.
