Fleetwood Mac could be heading for a long-awaited reunion to mark the 50th anniversary of their landmark 1977 album Rumours — despite previously insisting the band’s story had ended following the death of Christine McVie.

Reports suggest that serious discussions are underway between the surviving members about staging a one-off live show to commemorate the milestone. The project is said to be part of a wider celebration that would include a deluxe reissue of Rumours featuring unheard studio material, as well as a documentary and potential TV special.

According to The Sun, Mick Fleetwood is believed to be driving the idea, with a “goal” of bringing the band together one last time to celebrate both Rumours and the memory of McVie. Speaking at LA’s City of Hope Gala, Aaron Bay-Schuck, co-chairman and CEO of Warner Records, said: “We will do everything in our power to respect that anniversary as long as they’ll let us.”

If it goes ahead, the concert would mark the band’s first performance since November 2019, when they appeared at the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Benefit at Oracle Park in San Francisco. That lineup featured Stevie Nicks, Christine McVie, John McVie, Mick Fleetwood, Neil Finn and Mike Campbell. The last performance to feature the classic Rumours lineup, including Lindsey Buckingham, took place at Radio City Music Hall in New York on January 26, 2018.

After McVie’s passing in 2022, Stevie Nicks had made clear that she saw no future for Fleetwood Mac without her. “When Christine died, I felt like you can’t replace her. You just can’t. Without her, what is it? You know what I mean? When she died, I figured we really can’t go any further with this. There’s no reason to.”

However, recent developments have hinted at a softening between Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham, whose famously volatile relationship defined both the band’s greatest triumphs and deepest divides. The pair’s joint 1973 album Buckingham Nicks was re-released last month after decades out of circulation — a move many fans saw as a symbolic reconciliation.

Sources now claim that while a full-length tour remains off the table, the possibility of a single celebratory concert has been “seriously discussed.” If realised, the event would serve as both a tribute to McVie’s legacy and a final curtain call for one of rock’s most enduring and dramatic ensembles.

Mick Fleetwood, long regarded as the peacemaker of the group, has openly expressed his hope that the former lovers could “pal up a bit more” and find common ground. A one-night-only performance, uniting the surviving members on stage half a century after Rumours changed music history, would do exactly that — a fitting, full-circle moment for a band whose story has always been one of chaos, heartbreak, and harmony.
