Leitrim County Council has launched a new campaign aimed at encouraging people living in urban areas, both in Ireland and overseas, to consider relocating to County Leitrim.

The initiative, titled "Most Definitely Leitrim", will run for three months and will primarily be promoted through social media. The campaign will feature the experiences of individuals and families who have successfully moved to the county from other parts of Ireland and abroad, highlighting the benefits of living and working in the northwest.

Through a series of personal stories, the campaign will showcase how people have built new lives and careers in Leitrim. Featured participants include remote workers, entrepreneurs, and homeowners who have renovated vacant and derelict properties with support from government schemes such as Croí Cónaithe and the Vacant Above the Shop Grant. Their experiences are intended to demonstrate the opportunities available for those seeking a different lifestyle away from larger urban centres.

Among those sharing their stories are a former Dublin marketing professional who established a jewellery business in Rooskey, a linguist whose clients include the European Parliament, and couples who have restored traditional farmhouses and become part of local communities.

As part of the campaign, Leitrim County Council is also conducting a survey to gather feedback on remote and flexible working in the county. The survey is aimed at people currently working remotely in Leitrim, hybrid workers who commute part-time, and professionals elsewhere who may be interested in relocating.

The research will focus on key issues that influence relocation decisions, including broadband quality, housing availability, childcare services, co-working facilities, and community supports. The findings will help guide future investment and policy decisions designed to support population growth and economic development in the county.

Cathaoirleach of Leitrim County Council, Councillor Paddy Farrell, said the campaign seeks to showcase the opportunities available to those looking for a better work-life balance, stronger community connections, and an improved quality of life. He noted that housing restoration schemes are playing a significant role in helping people settle and build their futures in Leitrim.

Director of Services David Minton said the county has already experienced strong interest from remote workers, business owners, and individuals taking advantage of vacant property schemes. Speaking on RTÉ's Morning Ireland, he described Leitrim as a place that offers all the practical requirements of modern working life while retaining a unique sense of authenticity and community spirit.

To support prospective residents, Leitrim County Council has created a dedicated online information hub providing guidance and resources for those considering making the move to the county.
