Soundgarden have confirmed that their final album is now being mixed.

The band had previously hinted that they would release their final album with their late frontman, Chris Cornell, who died from suicide in 2017. They had been writing new material with Cornell in the period leading up to his death.

By the end of last year, Soundgarden had said in an interview with Allison Hagendorf, that they were "pretty close" to finishing this album. This comes two years on from initial reports that they had settled a legal row with Cornell's estate, which included the rights to several unreleased tracks.

Now, Soundgarden drummer, Matt Cameron has confirmed that the album is being mixed.

Speaking on the Let There Be Talk Podcast, Matt Cameron said: “we’re just gonna try to get this thing mixed, get it over the finish line, and then hopefully we’ll have a better idea what’s gonna come next. We’re just taking it one step at a time ’cause it’s been kind of a long process just to get to here".

He did add that they have not announced a release date for this album.

Cameron also confirmed in the same interview that this album would feature eight songs with Cornell included: “I think that that’s pretty much all there is with vocals,” he remarked. “We had some instrumentals left over that [guitarist] Kim [Thayil] wants work on. So maybe we’ll do some new stuff together, which would be fine by me".

Speaking last year, Matt Cameron admitted that hearing his late bandmate isolated in the studio would be difficult.

“It’s been tough to solo up that voice and hear him loud and clear. But I think the fans will like it and it's gonna be a really nice way to finish the creative chapter in Soundgarden", he said at the time. More on this from Nova here.
