While there’s still six weeks left of the year, and some great movies still to hit the cinema, we’re already looking towards 2026, which looks like it might be the year for the sequel.

Fans recently were sent into a frenzy as a teaser for The Devil Wears Prada 2 dropped, with both Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway back in their respective roles.

The sequel hits cinemas in May 2026, 20 years after the original was released, and to say the buzz is mighty is an understatement.

Early 2026

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple drops on January 16, and stars our very own Cillian Murphy alongside Ralph Fiennes. It is the fourth installment in the 28 Days Later franchsie, with a fifth film already in the works.

The Bone Temple takes place after the events of the previous film, with Murphy reprising his role of Jim from 28 Days Later.

The seventh installment of the Scream franchise hits cinemas on February 27 with the first trailer showing Ghostface returning and once again, setting his sights on Sidney Prescott.

Neve Campbell and Courtney Cox return as Sidney and Gail with other returning stars include the deceased characters of David Arquette, Matthew Lillard and Scott Foley and Kevin Williamson is taking the helm aka the man who wrote the original Scream movies, so this latest addition is in good hands.

Mid 2026

The Devil Wears Prada 2 is landing in cinemas on May 1 with Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway returning as Miranda Priestly and Andrea Sachs. Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci also reprise their roles from the first movie.

The sequel is set to be based on the 2013 novel, Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns, by Lauren Weisberger.

A week later, Mortal Kombat fans will be heading to the cinema as Mortal Kombat II is released, three years after filming began and was paused due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. Karl Urban (The Boys) stars as Johnny Cage, who joins up with the champions of Earthrealm who battled against one another.

Not long after that, there’ll be a bit of parody relief as Scary Movie 6 drops, with Anna Faris, Marlon and Shawn Wayans all returning to the screen for the comedy-horror.

The sixth installment is also a reboot with Faris and Regina Hall reprising their roles from the first four films.

On June 19, Pixar will release Toy Story 5 with Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack and Tony Hale all returning to their roles in the previous flicks.

The trailer for the fifth installment dropped earlier this week, with the main villain set to be a tablet called, Lilypad.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set for release on July 31, 2026, with Tom Holland and Zendaya back as Peter Parker and MJ.

No plot has been confirmed for the fourth installment in the franchise, which also sees Stranger Things star Sadie Sink in the line-up.

Late 2026

Following the 2025 release of the book, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping movie adaptation is slated for release on November 20 and will follow the 50th anniversary of The Hunger Games and young boy Haymith Abernathy and his involvement in the Games.

Among the cast include Joseph Zada, Mckenna Grace, Jesse Plemons, Maya Hawke, Elle Fanning, Kieran Culkin and Ralph Fiennes.

The comedy is the fourth release in the Meet the Parents franchise, with the original releasing in 2000, followed by the sequel, Meet the Fockers in 2004 and Little Fockers in 2010.

Avengers: Doomsday, the 39th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) lands in cinemas on December 18, with the Avengers, Wakandans, Fantastic Four, New Avengers and the ‘original’ X-Men taking on Doctor Doom.

2027

And 2027 is also shaping up to be an exciting year for film with The Simpsons Movie sequel dropping in 2027, nearly 20 years to the day after their first big screen outing, which dropped in 2007.

The second Simpsons Movie will land on July 23, 2027, but there’s plenty to keep us going until then.
