A man was injured during the incident on O'Connell Street yesterday afternoon, near the Luas platform on the central reservation.
Emergency services, including Gardaí, attended the area shortly after 4.30pm.
The injured man was taken for medical treatment. His injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.
A man aged in his 40s was subsequently detained in connection with the incident.
He remains in Garda custody at a station in Dublin, where he is being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
The investigation into the circumstances of the stabbing is ongoing.
