With Christmas prep in full swing and everyone feeling the pressure, An Post is offering Dubliners a small but meaningful pause — and a free caffeine boost — on Thursday, 4 December. Teaming up with Brother Hubbard on Capel Street, they’re inviting people to drop in, write a Christmas card to someone they care about, and send it off free of charge.

Running from 10am to 1pm, the event gives visitors a chance to step away from their screens and reconnect the old-fashioned way. Anyone who takes part will receive a free stamp and a free coffee, with An Post handling the posting there and then. It’s also an opportunity to stock up on Christmas essentials, from stamp booklets to card packs, while you’re already in the festive mindset.

The idea follows the huge response earlier this year when nearly 40,000 people took part in An Post’s “Letter to Your Future Self” initiative back in March. This time, the focus shifts outward — encouraging people to think about someone who might appreciate a handwritten moment of kindness.

As organisers put it, while it’s easy to fire off a text or send a quick “Happy Christmas” voice note, a handwritten card carries a different weight. It says you’ve taken the time to sit down, put pen to paper, and genuinely think about the person receiving it.

All you need to do is go to Brother Hubbard at 153 Capel Street, grab your free regular coffee, settle into a quiet spot, and start writing. Whether your message is for family, friends, or someone who finds this time of year a little tougher, An Post will deliver your card anywhere in the world.

A handwritten card might seem like a small gesture — but the impact, especially at this time of year, can be much bigger.

Terms and Conditions: Offer applies to regular-sized coffee (regular milk or oat milk only) at Brother Hubbard, 153 Capel Street, for the duration of the activation.
