Emergency services were quite busy yesterday as rainfall hit unprecedented levels throughout the country.

Counties such as Dublin, Kildare and Laois were some of the worst affected while several counties in Munster also suffered the torrential downpours.

According to RTÉ, 43 houses in Co. Laois had to be evacuated due to three local rivers breaking their banks.

Laois Fire and Rescue, posted several updates to their social media accounts, showing the levels of flooding which occurred in the county.

The group also posted updates where they helped children leave school by building a temporary bridge for their safety before evacuating a pre-school.

Many parts of Ireland had seen up to 50mm of rainfall yesterday as the cold weather is due to move in on Ireland over the weekend.

The M4 was severely flooded causing long delays for commuters yesterday evening and this morning traffic is moving quite slowly once again as Met Éireann warn of icy conditions due to the overnight cold snap.
