A well-known Howth hospitality family is expanding once again, with the announcement of a brand new seafood restaurant set to open in early 2026.
Simon O’Connell, the proprietor behind two of Howth’s most popular venues — O’Connell’s Pub and The Pier House Restaurant — has confirmed plans for a third establishment, Molly Malone’s, to open on Howth’s West Pier.
Overlooking Ireland’s Eye and Lambay Island, the new restaurant will focus on locally sourced seafood and offer what the owner describes as a “historical twist” celebrating Howth’s rich maritime past.

The O’Connell family first entered the hospitality scene in 2012 with the opening of O’Connell’s Pub, followed by the Pier House Restaurant, which has since become a favourite for both locals and visitors to the North Dublin fishing village. The addition of Molly Malone’s marks another milestone in what has become a homegrown hospitality success story.
Speaking about the expansion, Simon O’Connell said: “We’ve been on an incredible journey for the last decade with so many milestones, including receiving esteemed awards along the way. It’s time for us to expand our expertise with a seafood restaurant here on the West Pier.”
He added: “What’s always mattered most to us is delivering a top-quality experience to our loyal customers, so it’s a fantastic opportunity to bring Molly Malone’s to Howth, where we can expand on our offering in a wonderful location. We look forward to the journey ahead.”
Construction and fit-out of the new venue are expected to begin in the coming months, with the opening slated for early 2026. The restaurant will join an already thriving culinary scene on Howth’s harbour front, known for its fresh seafood, coastal views, and local character.
The announcement underscores Howth’s continued appeal as one of Dublin’s most vibrant coastal destinations, attracting both tourists and locals with its mix of traditional pubs, award-winning eateries and seaside charm.
