Jamey Carney's partner travelled from Kerry to Dublin Airport on a 3am bus before flying out of Ireland in the hours before the American woman's body was discovered.
An Garda Síochána has confirmed that a person of interest in the investigation into the death of Jamey Carney left the country in the early hours of Tuesday, July 7, before officers were alerted to the 43-year-old's death.
The man, identified by multiple media outlets as Ahmad Al-Saqar, is understood to have travelled from Killarney to Dublin Airport on an overnight bus before boarding an early morning flight to Turkey.
His current location is unknown, but he is understood to have contacts in Turkey, Jordan and Syria. He is fluent in Arabic, French and English.
According to Gardaí, the person of interest had already left the jurisdiction before Ms Carney's body was discovered at her home in Killarney, Co Kerry, on Tuesday afternoon.
In a statement, a Garda spokesperson said: "An Garda Síochána is satisfied that a person of interest in this investigation left the jurisdiction in the early hours of Tuesday, July 7, prior to the body of the deceased female being discovered and reported to An Garda Síochána."
Investigators are now working alongside Interpol and Europol as part of efforts to establish the man's whereabouts.
"As part of this ongoing investigation, An Garda Síochána is engaging with international law enforcement partners," a Garda spokesperson added.
Although Gardaí have not publicly identified the individual or released his photograph, they have appealed for witnesses and for anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward.
Officers are also examining available CCTV and continuing to establish the movements of those involved in the hours before Ms Carney's death.
The investigation is being supported by specialist units including the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Garda National Immigration Bureau.
Ms Carney, who was originally from Westchester County, New York, had been living in Ireland since 2021 and was well known in the Killarney community.
The mother-of-one had worked in healthcare and was involved with several local groups after making Kerry her home.
Her death has shocked both the local community and relatives in the United States, where members of her family continue to live.
Gardaí have appealed to anyone who was in the area or who may have relevant dashcam footage to contact investigators.
