‘Don’t Stop Believing’ the iconic 1981 hit from Journey, has been named the biggest song of all time.

This happened after the track became an 18x platinum certified single, meaning that the song has moved more than 18 million units between pure sales and other forms of consumption including streaming in the US alone, according to the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America).

Previously, Journey had only reached quadruple platinum status with ‘Don’t Stop Believing’ in May 2013.

Former Journey frontman Steve Perry also reacted via social media.

“To be part of such a moment as this made me reflect on my parents. By that I mean, though I lost them both years ago, I was so happy for them because they are truly the reason this is happening. My dad was a singer and both of them were very musical. So on behalf of my Mom and Dad, I thank every one of you for so many years of support”, Perry wrote on Instagram.

Released in October 1981, ‘Don’t Stop Believing’ reached Number Nine in the Billboard Hot 100, becoming one of the biggest hits for the band.

It featured on Journey’s album ‘Escape’, which was certified Diamond by the RIAA in July 2021, earning at least 10 million sales in the US, the band’s most successful album to date.

Journey also played in Dublin’s 3Arena as recently as last November. More on this here.
