Kneecap’s Moglaí Bap has paid tribute to his grandmother, Theresa Carleton (née Hanna).

Theresa passed peacefully at hospital surrounded by her loving family on December 16 and is predeceased by her husband, Frank.

This weekend, Theresa was laid to rest with a Requiem Mass taking place at St Michael’s Church at 10 am followed by burial in Milltown Cemetery.

Moglaí Bap (whose real name is Naoise Ó’Cairealláin) and Mo Chara (Liam Óg O hAnnaidh) previously lived with Theresa.

Affectionately known as Granny T and the Belfast Bap connoisseur, Kneecap fans will recognise her frequent appearances in the band’s music videos.

Taking to Instagram on Sunday, Moglaí Bap shared a series of photos alongside his beloved grandmother.

‘Slán go fóill [gooodbye for now] to my legend of a Granny, the Belfast Bap connoisseur,’ he wrote.

‘Always supporting me and kneecap and hopping into music videos even when she didn’t have a baldy what we were talking about.’

He added that the deal was if she got into a video he had to take her to get her messages.

‘Grá mór [big love] Granny T,’ the doting grandson wrote, prompting an influx of messages of well wishes in the comments section.

One wrote: ‘I remember her up in the box at the Olympia at the show years ago, so proud of you.’

Another added: ‘there’s nothing like yer granny and her love will stay with you long after your own heart stops beating.’

A third commented: ‘I am so sorry for your loss. You made her very proud and I’m glad she got to see how much you’ve accomplished.’
