Although only five points separated the teams at half-time, Limerick pulled away after the restart with a devastating spell that included a flurry of points and a crucial goal, stretching their advantage and leaving Galway with a mountain to climb.
Galway continued to battle and responded with scores of their own, including a goal in the final minute of added time. However, a red card in the closing stages summed up their frustrations as Limerick maintained their grip on the game until the final whistle.
Speaking after the victory, John Kiely praised Galway as formidable opponents but reserved special praise for his own players' resilience and commitment. "You don't get days like this without going to the well, and they did that," he said.
