Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has announced that he will be leaving the club at the end of this season.

In an emotional video shared online, Klopp confirmed this news, saying that he is “running out of energy”.

“I will leave the club at the end of the season,” Klopp said in this video. “I understand that it’s a shock”.

Jurgen Klopp also said that he had told the Liverpool hierarchy about his intentions to step down last November.

He revealed, “When we sat there together talking about potential signings, the next summer camp and can we go wherever, the thought came up, ‘I am not sure I am here then anymore’ and I was surprised myself by that. I obviously start thinking about it”.

In 2022, Jurgen Klopp had signed a two year contract extension with Liverpool, which was set to keep him at the club until 2026.

“body blow”

Having been appointed as the club’s manager in October 2015, Jurgen Klopp will step down as Liverpool boss after 9 years in charge.

In that time, the German has led the club to six major trophies, including the Champions League in 2019, and the Premier League a year later, Liverpool’s first league triumph in 30 years.

Previous to that, Klopp had guided Borussia Dortmund to back to back German league titles in 2011 and 2012. He also led the club to the 2013 Champions League final, where they lost out to Bayern Munich.

Reacting to the news, former Liverpool player and current Sky Sports Jamie Carragher, has described this as a “body blow” to the club.

“This news was always going to be a body blow to the club whenever it came”, Carragher posted on X. “I just thought it would be another few years away. What a manager, what a man, let’s go out with a bang Jurgen!”.
