A man in his 50s has died following a house fire in south Dublin overnight.

Dublin Fire Brigade was alerted to the blaze in the Stillorgan/Mount Merrion area at around 1.20am.

Firefighters and paramedics from Donnybrook, Rathfarnham and Dolphin’s Barn stations were sent to the scene.

The fire was quickly brought under control, but the body of a man was recovered from the property.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was later removed to the mortuary at St Colmcille’s Hospital in Loughlinstown.

The coroner has been notified and a postmortem examination will be carried out.

An Garda Síochána took control of the scene at around 3am, with a technical examination carried out on Sunday morning.

It is understood that foul play is not suspected.
