Marilyn Manson is well known for his shock value, but not like this. Performing on stage in the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York on Saturday, Manson was struck by a stage prop. In videos shared online, it appears to fall on Manson from behind.
The prop was reportedly two guns held together by metal scaffolding.
Witnesses have said that Manson lay on stage, covered by a black sheet for almost 15 minutes, before being carried out on a stretcher and taken to hospital.
According to Billboard magazine, the American singer has now cancelled nine tour dates.
An eye-witness of the accident, Anthony Biscardi told the BBC that fans at the concert “instantly freaked out”.
“He was performing the song Sweet Dreams. Towards the middle of the song it seemed as though he tried climbing onto a prop.
“The first touch of weight on those poles and it came crashing down onto him. He was pretty limp, almost as though he was unconscious,” Mr Biscardi said.”
It’s clear in videos posted online of the incidents that Manson does not get back up when the prop was lifted off him by band members and stage crew.An announcement was then made that the show was cancelled “due to injury”.
A representative told Rolling Stone magazine that: “Manson suffered an injury towards the end of his incredible NYC show. He is being treated at a local hospital.”
Manson was three dates into his The Heaven Upside Down Tour. He was due to perform in Boston tonight.
