Conditions should be mild for people celebrating the New Year outside. That’s the immediate prediction from the national forecaster. Met Eireann has revealed that the New Year’s celebrations with 2019 set to start cloudy and dry – but “high pressure” will see cooler temperatures come in.

A spokesperson for Met Eireann says it will be mainly ‘dry and settled’ coming into the New Year but one forecaster has warned of a potential SSW pressure system that could mean more extreme conditions.

Today and tomorrow will be cloudy with some patches of rain and drizzle but sunnier spells will creep through at times as temperatures reach highs of 12C.

According to Met Eireann, it will be,  “Often cloudy and misty today in central and southern areas, with scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle, but occasional bright intervals as well.

“Drier and brighter further north, with sunny breaks developing for northern counties, although the cloudy, misty and damp conditions will extend northwards towards evening.”
