A musician who claims that Kurt Cobain personally gave him Nirvana Demo tapes, has uploaded them to Youtube for us all to enjoy. This is kind of a big deal. John Purkey, who is a musician from Washington, uploaded the raw audio including ‘Bleach’ demos which were reportedly recorded at Nirvana’s first ever session in 1988 in Reciprocal Studios.

Chad Channing, who was Nirvana’s first official drummer, does not feature on all demos, as they were recorded when Dale Crover of The Melvins, recorded the drums for Nirvana’s first record. Another of the tapes is said to feature ‘Nevermind’ demos, recorded with Channing in the 1990s, before Dave Grohl took over.

Purkey has also uploaded a video explaining his connection to the band, claiming that he developed a close relationship with them after watching their development in Washington.

He claims that he sold two of the casettes after one was stolen from a friend’s car and that he stashed the others away in a metal box.

Check out the demos and Purkey’s story below!

Our very own Ruth Scott and Conor Irwin recently visited Newbridge Silverware’s Museum of Style Icons where they got to see Kurt Cobain’s 1992 MTV Video Music Award Moonman presented to him for Best New Artist in a Video for the Nirvana song “Smells Like Teen Spirit,”  Moon man close up!
