Noel Gallagher says he loves listening and making music but it’s just not as much fun as taking magic mushrooms.

The singer revealed his thoughts on the drug at a recent Q&A session with English radio station XFM.

The Q&A took place at the Hammersmith Club in London, in aid of a new charity Global’s Make Some Noise. Noel was joined on stage by former Creation Records boss Alan McGee and Manic Street Preachers bassist Nicky Wire.

Gallagher joked that when he was a young teen he was much more interested in drugs than pop music.

Speaking about the suburb of Burnage Manchester, where he grew up, Noel said: “Where I come from, it’s not musical at all. Although Manchester is, obviously. I don’t say it to be cool, but we were more into fucking taking drugs and banging around in the park [than listening to music]. Music’s great and all that, but it’s not as good as mushrooms.”

He quipped that, “pop songs are three minutes long. You get a good six hours out of f**king mushrooms.”

Gallagher’s new record Chasing Yesterday is due out next year on March 2nd.  It’s the first album that he has produced, he said producing the record was a “a major pain in the arse”.
