Noel Gallagher's guitar used during the recording sessions for Oasis' album, 'What's The Story Morning Glory?, is to go up for auction.

The Epiphone EJ-200 acoustic guitar, which is also signed by Gallagher, is being sold along with a handwritten lyric sheet for Oasis hit, 'Don't Look Back In Anger', as well as a Rickenbacker 12-string model which was also used by Gallagher for a decade.

The auction, which marks the first time that the EJ-200 is being auctioned, is going under the hammer at Sotheby's, and is expected to fetch between £45,000 and £60,000, with online bidding beginning tomorrow (April 9).

A letter of authenticity is also included alongside this guitar, which confirmed that it was used throughout the making of this historic album.

"almost unprecedented"

Speaking about this guitar, Sotheby's pop culture specialist, based in New York, Craig Inciardi, stated that the model was “typical of what [Gallagher] plays to this day”.

Speaking about Morning Glory being made in just 15 days, Inciardi continued: “It was quite extraordinary how they managed to record it in such a fast period of time".

“[Gallagher] was just so prolific at the time … with the amount of songs that were coming out of him, it’s almost unprecedented. And if you look at that album and you look at the track listing, it looks like a greatest hits album", he added.

Inciardi also called this guitar a "holy grail" for fans.

“These are functional objects that have become so sought after and the value of musical instruments that have this sort of historic provenance has significantly increased over time", he explained.

It turns out that Noel Gallagher eventually gave this guitar to a roadie, and it was purchased from them by the person who is now selling it, who has been described as a "huge fan" of Oasis, according to Inciardi.

“He is a huge Oasis fan,” Inciardi said. “He was in the social circles of people who were around the band at the time".

'Whats The Story (Morning Glory?) sold 350,000 copies within its first week of release, featuring famous Oasis tracks like ‘Wonderwall’, ‘Champagne Supernova’, ‘Some Might Say’ and ‘She’s Electric’.

The album also spent 10 weeks at top spot in the UK, earning Oasis a Brit Award for Best British Album in 1996.

This comes as Noel's brother Liam recently claimed he was touted for Celebrity Traitors. You can check out more on this story from Nova here.
