Original AC/DC lead singer has claimed that he was the band’s “best” singer.

Dave Evans was one of the original founding members of AC/DC, alongside brothers Malcom and Angus Young, bassist Larry Van Kriedt, and drummer Colin Burgess.

AC/DC were formed in 1973, with Evans providing vocals on their first official single, ‘Can I Sit Next To You Girl’, and its B-side ‘Rocking in the Parlour’.

A year after their formation, Dave Evans was replaced as lead singer by Bon Scott, who served in the role until his tragic death in 1980.

Brian Johnson took up the mantel as lead vocalist, fronting the band ever since.

“maestro”

In a new interview, Dave Evans insisted that he was the best singer AD/DC ever had.

“Well, first, Dave Evans is the best, of course. That’s me, okay? Of course. And most of my fans will tell you exactly that, too,” before adding that his fans called him “maestro”.

Evans also explained that the other two singers Bon Scott and Brian Johnson should not be compared, as they had very different singing styles.

“If you’re an AC/DC fan, you must embrace the whole band, because first of all, there was the five founding members, and I’m one of ’em,” Evans said.

“And if you’re biased against one or the other, then you’re not really an AC/DC fan. If you’re a Bon Scott AC/DC fan or a Brian Johnson AC/DC fan, you’re a fan of part of the band”.

Looking ahead to this Summer, AC/DC will embark on a major European Tour, which will include 21 shows across 10 countries this Summer.

AC/DC Out On Tour

AC/DC will take to the stage at Dublin’s Croke Park on August 17 this year, with the line up including Angus Young on lead guitar, vocalist Brian Johnson, rhythm guitarist Stevie Young, drummer Matt Laug. More on this from Nova here.

Over the weekend, the Highway To Hell rockers also paid tribute to Australian gig promoter Garry Van Egmond, who passed away aged 82.

Van Egmond was responsible for some of the biggest concerts in Australia, including Dire Straits’ record breaking Brothers In Arms tour in 1986.

The tour sold over 900,000 tickets when Australia’s population was just 14 million at the time. It even sold 250,000 tickets in Sydney alone.

AC/DC who dealt with Garry Van Egmond whenever they toured Australia and New Zealand, also paid tribute to him.
