In an interview with the Hollywood reported, Zucker stated that he has no intentions to see the new film, "I don’t see any of the sequels that were of my material done by other people, and that’s fine," he said. Zucker continued to explain that it is not a personal matter, and that he explained to decision not to watch the reboot to Akiva Schaffer, director of Naked Gun 2.
“He actually invited me to come see an early cut of it, but I told him there’s nothing I could do to help because it really isn’t what I would have done," Zucker explains. "That’s not to say that he didn’t actually end up doing a good movie. But I don’t think I could help with that," he added.
Although Zucker states that he is in fact excited about the reboot as it "shows that there’s a strong market for comedy in movie theaters, and spoof in particular. People are liking it, which is great. I really like the director, and I just couldn’t wish him more well."
"I texted him already, saying, ‘I hear the reviews are great, and it’s tracking well.’ He was very happy to hear from me, and we’ll probably get together later in the month when the smoke clears," the direcror adds of Schaffer.
Naked Gun 2 stars Liam Neeson as Frank Drebin Jr, the son of late Nielsen's Frank Drebin, and Pamela Anderson, playing love interest Beth. Neeson and Anderson have sparked dating rumours whilst on the press tour for the new film as they are seen being affectionate towards eachother on red carpets. However the two have started to play in to the rumours with nothing but kind words for eachother, although neither of the stars have confirmed that there is a romantic relationship in the pipeline.
