Judge Lifts Reporting Restrictions On Belfast Rape Trial

Both Paddy Jackson And Stuart Olding express their regret at having their contracts cancelled.

The contracts of Paddy Jackson and Stuart Olding were revoked following an internal review carried out by the IRFU and Ulster Rugby. The review was called after the pair were acquitted of the rape of a then-19 year old girl at Jackson’s home in June 2016. Mr Jackson was also found not guilty of sexual assault.

In a statement to the Press Association, Jackson said he was ‘disappointed’ with the outcome, but added ‘I recognise that my behaviour has fallen far short of the values expected of me as an international player’ and that he is truly sorry.

Stuart Olding said he was ‘fiercely proud’ to have represented both Ulster and Ireland, and that he ‘bears no one any ill will.’

One of their Ulster team-mates, Craig Gilroy, was also sanctioned by the bodies after a text message he sent following the alleged incident.
