A major fire at the George’s Dock bridge in Dublin’s Docklands has led to an indefinite suspension of Luas Red Line services between Connolly Station and The Point. The fire, which occurred on August 19, 2025, caused severe structural damage to the bridge, prompting engineering assessments that concluded full demolition and reconstruction is necessary.
Commuters using this corridor will now rely on a replacement bus service, which began on September 1, 2025, operating every 10 minutes throughout standard operating hours. The route includes stops at Connolly, George’s Dock, Mayor Square – NCI, Spencer Dock, and The Point, using wheelchair-accessible, double-decker buses that honor valid Luas tickets and TFI Leap Cards.
To support the construction process, Luas services will face evening curtailments on September 2 and 3, with service restricted to Saggart/Tallaght to Smithfield after 7 pm. During these windows, Dublin Bus will accept Luas tickets.
Transport officials have projected the new bridge will be completed by late November 2025, at which time full restoration of the Red Line between Connolly and The Point is expected.
With key destinations—including the 3Arena, Convention Centre Dublin, and surrounding Docklands businesses—affected, it's vital for commuters to plan ahead. While some can manage a 15–20 minute walk between Connolly and The Point, the bus replacement ensures broader accessibility.
Luas customers can stay updated via the Luas website, X (Twitter), and on-site staff who will assist throughout the disruption.
